The deadline for those who declared early entry for the 2024 NBA Draft was on Wednesday, May 29. Several prominent names, such as Alabama’s Mark Sears, UConn’s Alex Karaban, and Wake Forest’s Hunter Sallis, decided to return to college despite their second-round draft projections. However, Bronny James once again made headlines ahead of this year’s draft, as he decided to end his college career after just one year. The NBA Draft is now less than a month away, which leads us to the discussion of where things stand at the top of the NBA Draft Big Board between Alex Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher.
The Atlanta Hawks own the first overall pick, a spot any team in the league would like to find themselves in. Yet this is not necessarily the best year to own the No. 1 overall selection, especially since there is no Victor Wembanyama or Anthony Edwards, two young talents who immediately changed the trajectory of their respective franchises. Sarr and Risacher could become game-changers, yet there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding both French talents.
Can Sarr be a dominant force at the power forward or center position who commands a presence in the paint on both offense and defense? Will Risacher’s three-point shooting abilities carry over to the NBA? Who is the better overall player between Sarr and Risacher?
These are the three dominant questions the Hawks are pondering right now, which is why there continues to be a battle at the top of the NBA Draft Big Board.
Quite a few players who were featured on ClutchPoints’ 2024 NBA Draft Big Board 2.0 have decided to return to college, allowing new names to take over. Much will change over the course of the next several weeks, but based on my early evaluations and observations, as well as feedback and opinions from scouts, team executives, and others, here is my 2024 NBA Draft Big Board 3.0 and Top 100 rankings, starting with the biggest risers and fallers over the last two weeks.

Alex Sarr vs. Zaccharie Risacher for No. 1 spot
At this point, it is looking more and more likely that Sarr and Risacher will be the first two players off the board when the 2024 NBA Draft begins on June 26. Whichever player the Hawks don’t decide to select first overall, the Washington Wizards will be more than happy to accept them with the second overall pick. While there is always the possibility of trades being made, Atlanta and Washington appear to be happy with the spots they are in.
This circles back to the whole debate of Sarr vs. Risacher for the first overall pick.
The best thing about Sarr is he’s a stretch big man who is a threat from anywhere on the court offensively. He can even put the ball on the floor and get to his spots, which is a rare trait to find in big men. With the Perth Wildcats in the NBL this past season, Sarr provided high-quality floor spacing and wasn’t afraid to do the dirty work in order to help his team win. The Hawks are expected to shop Clint Capela this offseason, leading to the assumption that Sarr is who they currently have at the top of their draft board.
Even though Sarr may currently occupy the Hawks’ top spot, Risacher is not far behind. In fact, there are several organizations around the league that have Risacher ranked higher than Sarr at this point in the pre-draft process. The belief that the French wing is a better overall talent than the French big man has only grown with Risacher’s recent performances in the postseason for JL Bourg. Not only is he shooting well from the perimeter, but Risacher is rebounding and scoring in the paint. This is why many have compared him to Michael Porter Jr. and a young Khris Middleton.
There is a lot to like about both Sarr and Risacher. Both players would be able to make an immediate impact for the Hawks, and the two French prospects should become focal building blocks for their new NBA franchises upon being drafted. In regards to the latest NBA Draft Big Board 3.0, Risacher is the one who has taken over the top spot. His recent performances are hard to overlook, and there is certainly more upside presented to teams for a 6’10” wing than a mobile big man nowadays.
Still, Sarr is likely to be the first player taken by the Hawks in just about three weeks.
Ron Holland, Matas Buzelis biggest 2024 NBA Draft lottery sleepers
Once Sarr and Risacher come off the board with the first two picks, that is when the 2024 NBA Draft will truly begin. The Houston Rockets have a huge decision to make with the third overall pick, and it would not come as a shock to see multiple teams trade in and out of the top 10. There are a handful of talented players projected to be selected in the lottery portion of the draft, but none are more interesting than Ron Holland and Matas Buzelis, a pair of G League Ignite alums.
Holland, once deemed the top player in his recruiting class, is a terrific athlete who is beginning to show a lot of growth in terms of using his body to score. If his shooting and defensive abilities continue to develop the way everyone imagines them to, it won’t be hard to look back a few years from now and wonder why Holland wasn’t the first overall pick.
Buzelis is a lengthy combo forward who measured just under 6’9″ at the NBA Draft Combine in May. Possessing a high understanding of where he wants to be on the floor offensively, as well as the length to be a disruptive defender, Buzelis can certainly become a focal point for a team.
These two forwards from the G League Ignite may just be two of the safest and high-upside prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft. Even if they don’t reach their full potential, they can still help make a difference with the talent they currently possess. There is a lot to like about Holland and the potential he has. Do not be surprised if a team inside the top five looks to select him once Sarr and Risacher come off the board. Holland moved up two spots on the NBA Draft Big Board 3.0, finding himself as the fourth-best prospect on the board.
Devin Carter, Baylor Scheierman, DaRon Holmes II, and Jaylon Tyson are other first-round-rated prospects who found themselves moving up for different reasons. Although they could fall to the second round, Holmes and Tyson are two unique players drawing interest from teams with late first-round picks. After keeping his name in the draft and not returning to Dayton, there is speculation that Holmes may have received a promise from a team looking for a stretch big man in their frontcourt.
Scheierman, who was arguably the best performer at the combine, continues to prove that he is one of the more NBA-ready players throughout the pre-draft process. A viable shooter on the wing, Scheierman can also create opportunities for others as a playmaker and offensive weapon for his team.
Carter is a guard who continues to rise up draft boards. Carter’s two-way abilities and ball-handling traits are what have teams interested in him, so much so that it would be shocking if he didn’t go in the lottery at this point.
Who is trending down the NBA Draft Big Board?
As many prospects rise up the NBA Draft Big Board, some have fallen slightly. Rob Dillingham from Kentucky is one of those players who has seen his draft stock slip in recent weeks after he was drawing a lot of eyes heading into the combine. After measuring smaller than expected, concern began to sprout regarding Dillingham’s long-term upside. Now, there is more concern about his effectiveness early on in his career as a scorer off the ball, given his small frame and stature. Still, Dillingham has shown flashes of his brilliance throughout the pre-draft process, which is why it’s hard to imagine that he will fall out of the lottery altogether.
A lot of uncertainty also continues to spiral around Serbian guard Nikola Topic, who finds himself ranked No. 7 overall on ClutchPoints’ NBA Draft Big Board 3.0. Topic suffered a non-contact knee injury on May 13, but the good news is there was no structural damage. Teams are looking to get a better look at Topic and evaluate his medical records when international players have their own mini NBA Draft Combine in Treviso, Italy.
Kevin McCullar Jr. and Zach Edey are two older prospects who have seen their stock slide slightly since the last update to the draft board. This is simply a case of others, such as DaRon Holmes II and Baylor Scheierman, drawing more attention than the collegiate veterans right now.
At Kansas, McCullar was a two-way star on the wing. Between his shooting abilities and defensive instincts, he can impact a team from the very moment he steps on the court. This is why McCullar has long been rated as a first-round prospect. Edey is a completely different story, as his projection varies based on who you ask.
Whereas some think Edey is deserving of a lottery pick, many are questioning if he can be a serviceable big man in the NBA. There are concerns about Edey’s conditioning and his effectiveness in pick-and-roll play, given his slow nature of play. After moving into the top 30, Edey has fallen to No. 31 overall.
With just about three weeks until the 2024 NBA Draft, here are what my full Big Board and Top 100 Rankings look like.
