This is a bit of an unusual list of ingredients, but trust me they all come together deliciously. Plus it gave me the opportunity to use nutritional yeast, which I have been wanting to cook with for some time now. Nutritional yeast is a bit salty, a bit cheesy, and pretty tasty. It is not something I use a lot of, but it is needed for the overall flavor profile in this recipe.

resh ideas will simply come your way, I promise! One of the easiest (and so simple also!) ways to enjoy it is with tortilla chips! Right after I had made my first batch,I found a jar of it at my local market when we lived on the Washington Peninsula, and gosh that small 8 ounce jar you see above was almost $7.00!

We enjoyed this with a homemade Yumm Bowl, the day I made it. It is delicious when freshly prepared and stays that way as it relaxes in your refrigerator. We enjoyed it a couple days later over leftovers believe it or not, and again, very delicious. And later in the week as a dip with vegetables. Again, totally delicious, so no worries when stored for a week in the fridge, just so you know.

So how do I make a Yumm Bowl?

I am glad you asked! Place a scoop of rice in the bottom of your bowl, add steamed veggies of choice, a spoon full of beans and meat if you choose, add the Cafe Yumm Sauce and enjoy! Spice it up or keep it mellow, the choice is yours, but one thing is clear, dinner won't be this fun until you serve another Yumm Bowl!


Ingredients needed for this recipe:

  • whole almonds
  • oil, we used avocado
  • garbanzo beans
  • coconut milk
  • lemon juice
  • fresh garlic
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • sweet curry powder
  • oregano
  • fresh cilantro
  • nutritional yeast

You will also need the following:

  • blender or food processor
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • liquid measuring cup
  • storage bowl or jar with lid

Cafe Yumm Sauce (homemade copycat)

1/2 c whole almonds

1/2 c oil - we used avocado oil, you want a light flavored oil

1 c garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained well

1/2 c water

1/2 c coconut milk (from a can) use equal parts milk and fat

1/2 c fresh lemon juice - 2 or 3 lemons depending on size

2-3 garlic cloves

1 t salt

fresh ground pepper

1 t sweet curry powder

1 t dried oregano

1/4 c fresh cilantro leaves

1/3 c nutritional yeast

Combine almonds, oil, beans, and water in a blender jar. Blend until smooth this may take 2-3 minutes. Stop and scrape down the sides of the blenderjar as needed.

Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate until needed. Makes about 3 cups.

Storage options for Cafe Yumm Sauce. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to five days. I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
