Cubs face Reds again, go for rare back-to-back wins
Stats
-
Reds' TJ Friedl: Dropped against lefty
Rotowire
Friedl batted seventh and went 0-for-1 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Cubs. He was also hit by a pitch.
Friedl, who batted leadoff since returning from a thumb injury Wednesday, was lowered to seventh in the order Saturday. That's due to the Reds facing a left-hander for the first time since his return. Friedl is 1-for-9 with four walks, one steal and one run scored since being activated off the injured list.

Reds' Stuart Fairchild: In lineup against lefty
Rotowire
Fairchild batted leadoff and went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Cubs.
The Reds haven't faced a left-handed starter the previous six games, which meant Fairchild was limited to pinch-hit roles over the last week. He singled in a run in the second inning and later stole his sixth base. Fairchild was eventually pinch hit for by Will Benson in the sixth inning when the Cubs brought a right-hander into the game. Fairchild is limited to mostly to left-handers and is batting .317/.411/.492 off them.

Swanson’s tiebreaking 2-run homer, Suzuki’s grand slam lift Cubs past Reds 7-5 at wet Wrigley Field
Stats
-
Reds' Hunter Greene: Surrenders five runs Saturday
Rotowire
Greene allowed five runs on three hits and five walks while striking out five batters over six innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.
Greene was staked to an early 4-0 lead but gave it all back when he served up a grand slam to Seiya Suzuki in the bottom of the second inning. All three runners on base for the big homer had reached via walk, so Greene's wildness played a big part in his poor stat line. This was the second time the right-hander has walked five batters in a contest this season, and his 30 free passes on the campaign are fourth-most in the majors.

Reds' Jake Fraley: Idle versus southpaw
Rotowire
Fraley isn't in the Reds' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.
With lefty starter Justin Steele set to toe the slab for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Fraley will step out of the lineup Saturday. His absence will move Tyler Stephenson into the DH role while Luke Maile starts behind the plate, batting ninth.

Reds' Will Benson: Sitting versus lefty
Rotowire
Benson isn't in the Reds' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.
The lefty-hitting Benson will retreat to the dugout as the lefty-throwing Justin Steele prepares to toe the slab Saturday. Stuart Fairchild will fill the void in right field and bat in the leadoff spot.

Reds' Santiago Espinal: Launches pinch-hit homer
Rotowire
Espinal entered as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Cubs.
Espinal pinch hit for Will Benson against lefty reliever Drew Smyly and launched his third home run of the season to give the Reds a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was the first time in four games that Espinal appeared in game. The utility infielder has been useful while the Reds deal with early season injuries.

Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Preserves win with arm
Rotowire
De La Cruz went 0-for-4 with a stolen base in Fridays 5-4 win over the Cubs.
De La Cruz's MLB-leading 32nd steal had no impact on the game, but the shortstop's cannon arm did. His 93.3 mph relay gunned down the potential tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve Cincinnati's win.

Santiago Espinal hits 2-run homer, Reds hold on to beat Cubs 5-4
Stats
-
Reds' Graham Ashcraft: Goes 4.2 innings vs. Cubs
Rotowire
Ashcraft didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cubs, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.
It's the fifth straight start that Ashcraft's failed to record an out in the sixth inning -- he's allowed at least three runs in each of those outings. The 26-year-old right-hander is 4-3 on the year with a 4.76 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 47:21 K:BB across 11 starts (58.2 innings). The Reds will look for more length out of Ashcraft in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Colorado.

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Walks tightrope for 11th save
Rotowire
Diaz earned the save Friday against the Cubs despite allowing a run on two hits in a walk in the ninth inning.
Diaz allowed the first two baserunners to reach safely before surrendering a one-out double to Seiya Suzuki. While one run scored on the play, Jacob Hurtubise would throw out Nick Madrigal at the plate as the tying run before Diaz got Cody Bellinger to fly out, sealing a 5-4 victory. While it didn't come easy for Diaz on Friday, he's now converted four straight save opportunities while allowing just one earned run in his last 5.2 innings. Diaz's ERA still sits at an uninspiring 5.91 with a 1.55 WHP and 22:15 K:BB across 21.1 innings this year. He's converted 11 of 13 save chances overall.

Reds' Jacob Hurtubise: Out of lineup again Friday
Rotowire
Hurtubise is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.
Hurtubise made eight straight starts from May 21-28 and batted leadoff every time the Reds faced a righty over that stretch. However, this now marks two straight games since TJ Friedl returned from the injured list that Hurtubise will begin the contest on the bench. Will Benson has shifted over to left field to accommodate Friedl in center.

Rotowire
Kennedy was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
Kennedy was designated for assignment Tuesday and went unclaimed on waivers. He'll head back to Louisville, where he's posted a 32:8 K:BB across 40.2 innings while working as a starter this season.

Reds' Jake Fraley: Logs ninth steal
Rotowire
Fraley went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Fraley swiped his ninth base of the season while extending a hit streak to five games (6-for-19). He's on pace for a second consecutive 20-steal season but has just seven extra-base hits in 134 plate appearances.

Reds' TJ Friedl: Hitless in return
Rotowire
Friedl went 0-for-3 with two walks in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to St. Louis.
Friedl was activated off the injured list Wednesday after successfully rehabbing a thumb injury. He resumed his roles as the team's starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. It's been a season of stops and starts thus far for Friedl, who was back only six games from a wrist injury when he injured the thumb. The Reds and fantasy managers alike are hoping for his sustained presence in the lineup.
